I guess it could be time for a new blog post, I mean it's only been 6 and a half years since the last one.
If you've happened to stop by my site before, you may notice it's had a little bit of a face lift - another item that's been hanging around the to do list for far too long.
Anyway, there have been a few developments here in the world of WTVR over the past while, so the purpose of this post is to give a bit of a glimpse into my thought process and a little preview of what's in the works.
Reflections
When I think back, WTVR started out life as an 'art project' - almost 10 years ago.
After creating the logo and coining the alias, it became my signature to the artwork I liked to create.
Over time though, it morphed into a clothing brand and I gradually found myself trying less to make artwork that I was proud of and instead spending more time trying to concoct the next t-shirt design that would sell.
In all honesty, I think I probably lost sight of the original vision and the reasons I started the project in the first place...to stem the rate of climate change, promote free education for all and eradicate world hunger.
OK, perhaps that wasn't the case - i'm not a Miss World candidate.
But in all seriousness, what I really wanted to do, was to get my artwork 'out there'.
A thing which took me a fair bit of deliberation to grow the balls to go ahead do.
In the end, going 'fuck it', taking the plunge and putting those concerns aside, is where the ‘WTVR’ philosophy was crystallised.
So as I was saying, having strayed off the path of the original vision of the project, you could say the artwork had started to take a bit of a back seat.
I'd found myself getting a little fed up with the clothing line side of things and really, I’d reached a point where I was considering just wrapping it all up.
Then strangely, it was right at that time, around Autumn 2021, when the craziest thing happened.
...I stumbled into the insane world of NFTs and Web3.
Now, that’s a whole story for another day, but basically, this discovery has given me an entirely new perspective on my vision with WTVR as a project.
With this in mind, I've been working over the last 6 months or so to take WTVR back to its roots - artwork creation.
Looking ahead
Going forward, I plan on using this blog as a bit of a forum to explore ideas and talk a bit more about the stuff that i'm making and any interesting developments with the project in general.
So, where is the project headed? I (don't) hear you ask.
Well, I have some ideas on that - they may not be fully fleshed out just at this stage, but figuring that out as I go should keep things interesting.
What I do know, however, is that it's going to see things become quite a bit more active from a creative and artwork production perspective.
This may involve: collaborations; murals; stickers; limited edition physical prints; NFTs; and some other interesting bits and pieces along the way. Who knows, maybe even still the odd T-shirt here and there.
Right, that's all for now folks. Thanks for stopping by and keep your eyes peeled for further updates. Unless I get hit by a bus - in which case all updates will likely cease.
Much love
WTVR x
